1.1.13 Sicher
With PocketGrib Lite GRIB file viewer, you have the capability to effortlessly download, view, and analyze global weather data. Wind, precipitation, pressure, temperature, and wave data extracted from GRIB files are presented through a user-friendly interface. The Lite version is restricted to downloading and viewing 48 hours of forecast data using the GFS weather model at 1° resolution and 6-hour time steps. To access up to 8 days of forecast data across various weather models with the highest resolution, consider upgrading to the full version.
This GRIB viewer is tailored for sailors, windsurfers, storm chasers, outdoor enthusiasts, and both amateur and professional meteorologists alike. It offers features such as the ability to choose your map location with overlaid weather information, animated mapped weather display, viewing weather as a meteogram or raw data, configurable downloads to minimize file sizes (ideal for roaming), direct download of GRIB data from NOAA's GFS model, and the display of a diverse range of weather types.
The weather types that PocketGrib downloads and displays include wind speed and direction (at 10 m above mean sea level), precipitation (rain, snow, etc.), pressure, air temperature, waves (covering the Mediterranean and Black Sea), cloud cover, relative humidity, CAPE (Convective Atmospheric Potential Energy), and current (Atlantic only). The app offers forecasts up to 2 days (up to 8 days in the full version) with data steps of 3 hours or 6 hours depending on the version.
The app provides worldwide coverage with varying resolutions based on the version chosen. The data is updated four times a day (every 6 hours). Additionally, the full version supports COAMPS, WW3, NOGAPS, RTOFS (Currents), and FNMOC WW3 (Mediterranean wave) models.
By enabling users to download only necessary data, PocketGrib effectively keeps GRIB file sizes minimal. This feature is particularly advantageous for regions with limited bandwidth or for international roaming purposes. Notably, since GRIB forecasts are automated and not subject to human review or intervention, users are advised to possess a certain level of knowledge and awareness. It is important to note that most GRIB models do not reliably forecast hurricanes and tropical cyclones; hence, users should complement their usage with specific forecasts for such events.
